Thanks to All Volunteers at the Kids Try-Athlon August 20 (Saturday) was the 2011 Kids Try-Athlon, sponsored by the Healthy Weight Kids Coalition. Kids in different age categories competed in the swim-bike-run race at Preston Miller Park. Other fitness activities were demonstrated, including kids from CrossFit Kids. He concludes that it is, and supplies compelling arguments to prove it. [ READ THE ARTICLE ] "Super Size Me" Revisited! Dr Voakes was all set to do the "Super Size Me" experiment (eat 3 meals a day at McDonalds) but not drink the huge sodas to show that it's the sugar drinks that made Morgan Spurlock fat. However, a much more entertaining version has been filmed by comedian Tom Naughton called "Fat Head". It's a 90-minute spoof documentary that pokes fun at Morgan Spurlock and all the proponents of the "Lipid Theory", while making some very important observations about how eating carbs, and especially sugar, is making Americans obese and sick. | Our Mission We hope to greatly reduce the problem of overweight through preventive measures in the following areas: (1) Work with schools to improve nutrition teaching and to improve the nutritional quality of foods available to children while at school. Increase the opportunities for physical activity in schools. (2) Train physicians to identify and treat overweight in their patients. Provide resources for them to educate their patients about prevention, and treat those who are already affected. (3) Make the public aware of the problem of overweight so that parents can recognize it at an early stage in their own children. Make the public aware of the serious health hazards resulting from overweight, and the options available to treat overweight. (4) Influence the local and state legislatures to bring about laws which favor the reduction of overweight in children, and promote cultural changes that allow children to maintain a healthy weight. (5) We also hope to guide and improve existing overweight treatment facilities within the community, improve access and availability of exercise and fitness resources within the community, and to set an example for treatment facilities everywhere.
